James Vincent Barbato, 97, of Succasunna, passed away Monday, March 10th, 2014 at Saint Clare's Hospital, Dover. James was born in Netcong and has been a resident of Succasunna since 1975, formerly of Dover.
He worked at Picatinny Arsenal, Rockaway Township and retired in 1972 after 32 years. He had also worked as a greenskeeper for 10 years at Picatinny Golf Club and 14 years at the Lake Lackawanna Golf Club.
He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Dover.
He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during WWII as a cook and baker in the Quartermaster Corps. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a cook in Hackettstown and CA.
James was a member of the American Legion Post #27 of Dover, the Knights of Columbus Lafayette Council #514 also of Dover, NARFE and the Dover and Roxbury Senior Citizens. He loved his family, golf, gardening, hunting and fishing.
Survived by Gertrude (nee Rossi) his loving wife of 73 years; two daughters Joan Moran and her husband Douglas of Dover and Diane Cece and her husband Lawrence of Hackettstown; two sons James Barbato Jr. and his wife Winifred of Downers Grove, IL and Stephen Barbato and his wife Jo Ann of Andover.
Also survived by eleven grandchildren Douglas, William, Katherine, Bettina-Marie, Thomas, Daniel, Brian, Sharon, Nicole, Stephen and Laura and sixteen great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Anthony Barbato of Netcong, his sister-in-law Rachel Rossi of Budd Lake and his brother-in-law Rocco Rossi of Dover.
Visitation Thursday, March 13th, 2014, 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com ).
Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Dover, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14th, 2014. Interment to follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
