Obituary of Robert Allen Gilbert

ROBERT A. GILBERT 84, FORMERLY OF DOVER Robert A. Gilbert of Concord, NC died June 27th, 2013, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Salisbury, NC. He was 84 years old. The third son of Isobel (Craig) and Brunson Gilbert, Bob was born in Dover on January 16, 1929, and resided there until retiring to Concord in 1997. Bob was co-owner/operator, with brothers Bill and Ron, of Gil-Craft Kitchens and Woodworking in Dover from 1954 to 1997. Bob attended Dover schools, and after graduating, served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948. He joined Engine Company 1 of the Dover Volunteer Fire Department in 1951, serving for 50 years. He was a driver for the department from 1963 to 1983, and a member of the NJ Exempt Fireman’s Association. Bob was also a life-long member of the First Untied Methodist Church of Dover. Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of Concord; brother Ronald and his wife, Audrey, of Chester, NJ; daughter Ruthann Milne and her husband John of Manahawkin, NJ; son Bob Gilbert Jr. of Dover; grandson Lieutenant (JG) John H. Milne IV, US Navy, and his wife Nicole of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter Helen Gilbert of Dover/Boonton Twp; special family/friends/supporters Susan and Michael Radtke of Concord; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by brothers John E. (Jack), William L. (Bill), Rev. Dr. Richard C. (Dick), and sister Phyllis J. Fisher Visitation will be Monday, July 1, 2013 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). A fireman's service will be held during the visitation. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday July 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Internment to follow at Locust Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Robert A.
