John Vaughan "Jack" Cornish
73, Oak Ridge
On June 19, Jack Cornish died peacefully at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover, NJ. Jack, truly a free spirit, was an artist, teacher, sailor, and most important to him, husband, stepfather, and "Grampy" to his wonderful grandchildren.
Jack was born in Belleville, NJ, in 1940. He graduated from Belleville High School, and received an MFA from Jersey City State College. He was a professor of fine art at Kean University for 45 years, spending many of those years as, Chairperson, Department of Fine Arts.
Jack, and his wife, Gayle, were long time members of the Keyport Yacht Club, where they spent magical days and nights aboard "Moondance." Through the years, Jack was a mentor to artists and sailors, teaching not only skills, but how to find joy in these endeavors.
A Celebration of Jack's Life is being planned by his family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to "Grampy's Paintbrush," a foundation that will provide scholarships for young creative artists in the schools that his grandchildren attend.
