"Mary" was born and raised in Bronx, NY, lived in Madison, Mendham and Morristown, NJ. Owned and worked with husband Jimmy at family stores in Mendham, Jimmy's General Merchandise and Proia's Clothing Store. Later in life she worked for many years at Singer Sewing Machine in Morristown before retiring. After Which she was a volunteer with Retired Senior Volunteers Program of Morristown for many years.
Her final years, she resided at Regency Grande in Dover, where she leaves many friends and loving caregivers.
Mary was deeply devoted to her family and a parishioner of St. Margaret's RC Church Morristown for over 30 years.
She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Jimmy Proia, her daughter Theresa Proia and 7 brothers and sisters. She leaves her sole surviving brother Jerry Grassi, son and daughter-in-law, Vito and Roseann Proia, 4 grandchildren - Jeanne Law, Elizabeth Corsetto, James and Robert Proia, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and many nieces/nephews. She is also predeceased by her 2nd husband.
Her smile and infectious laughter illuminated the many tales she related of growing up in NYC and of the colorful history of her large and extended family.
Visitation Monday, June 17, 2013, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, 10:00 a.m., also at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in her memory to the Salesian High School Scholarship Fund, C/O Father Pat Angelucci, 400 Beechmont Drive, New Rochelle, NY 10804.
