John E. Theodore, 73, of Roxbury Township, passed away Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at Compassionate Care Hospice at Saint Clare's Hospital, Dover. John was born in Dover and has been a resident of Roxbury Township for 35 years.
He was a Sexton at the Mt. Fern United Methodist Church for 31 years. He worked as a Custodian for Dover Board of Education for 25 years and then 20 years at the Randolph Board of Education. John started his Drum and Bugle Corps career in 1948 with the Dover Cadets. He march with the Morristown Colonials, the Avengers, Garden Statesmen, Golden Knights, Caballeros and Caballeros Alumni a total of 65 years. He was an instructor for the Emerald Grena'Dears Junior and Alumni Corps, the American Weldry Colorguard and a Director of the Grenadettes and Golden Knight Drum and Bugle Corps. A member of the Greater Alliance of Seniors and the retired D & B Breakfast Club at the Randolph Diner. J.T. was inducted into the NJ Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 2012. He also assisted with Dover and Randolph Wrestling since 1955.
Survived by his wife Maria (Tomitz) of 35 years; six children; Chris, Mike, Danny, Brian, Andrew, & Andrea; five grandchildren Anthony, Logan, Hailee, Izabella, & Ryan; twin sister Mary Paolella and husband Dominic. Also survived by his beloved dogs. Predeceased by his brother Charles.
Visitation Wednesday, May 8, 2013, 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com).
Funeral Services will be held at the Mt. Fern United Methodist Church, Randolph, 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9th, 2013.
