Obituary of Helen L. Messel

Helen Louise Messel, 88, passed away, April 25, 2013, at the Morris View Healthcare Center, Morris Plains, New Jersey. Helen was born February 7, 1925, in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of Josephine and William Johnson. Helen graduated from Vincennes High School in 1943 and on November 24, 1944, she married Theodore Paul Messel. They were together until Paul’s passing on November 2, 1993, in Brownsville, Texas. Helen continued to reside in Brownsville until January of 2010 when she came to Morris View Healthcare Center. Helen was a homemaker, spending a number years in Muncie, Indiana before moving to Morton Illinois, where besides raising a family she also worked at Morton National Bank. In the summer of 1987, she and Paul retired to Brownsville, Texas. Helen was a wonderful and loving mother who will be deeply missed by friends and family. Helen enjoyed golf, bridge and a good laugh. Surviving are her sons Stephen and wife Holly, Randolph, New Jersey, Gregg and wife Anita, Three Forks, Montana; her sister Rita Goode; and four grandchildren, Paul and Aaron Messel, Kevin Messel and Tracy Redondo. Helen’s daughter Cathy passed away on December 29, 1978, the result of a traffic accident. There will be no calling hours. A private family service will be held at a date to be determined.
