Obituary of Gerald J. DeLane

Gerald J. DeLane, 77, of Ledgewood, passed away Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown. Gerald was born and raised in Newark. He is a resident of Roxbury Township and formerly of Forked River. He received his BA from Seton Hall University. He served as a tank operator in the U.S. Army. Gerald was an Operating Engineer for Local 825 for over 40 years. He was a Crane Operator/Lead Engineer for many construction projects throughout the state. He served as one of the original organizers for training & safety programs for the Operating Engineers. Gerald was very much involved in Community Affairs in the Ironbound section of Newark. He was also active in many political campaigns. In addition to spending time with his family, he had a profound love for gardening and spending time outdoors. Survived by his son Jerry and his wife Diane; proud grandfather of Jenna, also survived by his brother Jude DeLane and his sister Blanche Valentino and many nieces and nephews. Visitation Sunday, February 23rd, 2014, 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Mass will be held at St. Therese R.C. Church, 151 Main Street, Succasunna, (973-584-8271) at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24th, 2014. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
