Nicholas "Nick" A. Grizzle
Nicholas A. Grizzle of Rockaway, 95, passed away on January 30th, 2013 after a short illness at Saint Clare's Hospital in Denville. Nick was born in Hibernia and lived most of his life in Rockaway. Nick was a standout football player at Rockaway High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending time in France and Persia (Iran), where he achieved the rank of Sergeant.
Nick spent his entire career at Picatinny Arsenal retiring from his job as a millwright in 1972. Nick was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Rockaway where he served as an usher. Nick was a lifetime member of the American Legion - Rockden Post 175 where he served as Commander; was a member and on the Board of Directors for the Rockaway Exempt Firemen Association, and he served numerous times as Chair of the Rockaway Memorial Day Committee. Nick was a member of the La Societe de Quarante Hommes & Huit Chevaux.
Nick was predeceased by his brother, George and his sisters, Catherine, Mary Chop and Betty Bizub.
Nick is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Thelma, his sister-in-law, Mae Post and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation Sunday, February 3, 2013, 1 - 5 PM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Service Monday, February 4, 2013, 11:00 AM also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
