Dennis Alston Ray of Randolph passed away peacefully after a long battle with Sarcoidosis on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at home. He was 57 years old. Born in Henderson, NC Dennis grew up in Dover where he excelled in football and basketball but discovered his life's calling: music.
Dennis traveled the world performing along the way releasing an album and performing a one man tribute show in NYC to his idol Sam Cooke. He would go on to perform on David Letterman's annual Christmas special with Darlene Love for several years as well as Dover's 4th of July fireworks until his last performance in Nassau Bahamas in 2006 - http://tinyurl.com/9yezmn2.
Even as his condition advanced Dennis never lost his love for music and over the last few years worked to finish a final score as a tribute to those lost on 9/11 - http://tinyurl.com/cx5wujn.
Dennis is predeceased by his father Ronald Lee Sr. and brother Ronald Lee Jr. Dennis is survived by his mother Annette, sister Edna J. and her husband Robert Seworth, brother H. Anthony and his wife Melissa. He is also survived by his girlfriend Michelle Rice and several cherished nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 6th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). A Christian burial for Dennis will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home followed by interment at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover
