Obituary of Milton Jamer

Please share a memory of Milton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Milton Jamer, 81, of Randolph and Barnegat, N.J., passed away without suffering on June 22 while receiving care at Holly Manor nursing home in Mendham, NJ. He spent the last years of his life in his Randolph residence, supported by his loving family. Matt was born in 1930 in Newark, N.J., the youngest of 5 children to Apolinary and Bertha Jamer, originally from Poland. He was raised in Newark and graduated from West Side High School where he starred in baseball and was named to the Newark All-Star team as a third baseman. He was offered a scholarship to play baseball at Seton Hall University but was encouraged to go professional and was signed by Hall of Fame manager/owner Connie Mack to play within the Philadelphia Athletics organization. He later enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. During his service he married his high school sweetheart Jacquelyn Jamer, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, raising 5 children as a devoted husband and caring father. Matt was an extremely hard-working and resourceful provider for his family, dedicating 40 years of service to Anheuser-Busch, Inc., retiring at the top of his profession as a delivery professional in the Newark Wholesale Operation. Matt was also an entrepreneur, successfully opening and managing The Park Lounge tavern in the Westside section of Newark for several years. Matt loved his summers at the Jersey Shore, cherishing ocean swims, fishing from his boat, and hosting at his home in Barnegat. He also had a passion for health and fitness, as he remained an active member of the YMCA for over 60 years, with recent recognition by the Randolph YMCA as the longest and founding member since their opening in 1981. His children share countless fond memories of their father taking them as children to the Orange YMCA, swimming and playing on the beaches of LBI, and for being a beacon of strength and guidance through their lives. Dad, we love you and will honor you and mom forever. Matt was predeceased by his beloved wife Jacquelyn who passed in 2010; he is survived by his daughter Linda Zadvydas of Milford, N.J.; four sons, Matthew Jamer and his wife Nancy of Midlothian, VA, Paul Jamer and his wife Betsy of Hopatcong, N.J., John Jamer and his wife Kimberly of Independence Twp., N.J., and Jeff Jamer and his wife Debbie, of Mendham, N.J. He is also survived by his brother Theodore Jamer of Union, NJ and his 12 adored grandchildren and loved nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome to attend a funeral mass honoring his life at Resurrection Parish of Randolph, 651 Millbrook Ave., on Wednesday, June 27 at 10 a.m. Funeral arrangements are by Tuttle Funeral Home (Tuttlefh.com), 272 Route 10 West, Randolph, with visitation hours on Tuesday, June 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Entombment at Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum, East Hanover.
