David L. Woomer died on May 12, 2012. He was born in Newark on February 16, 1932. The son of the late Harold F. and Lucille (Emde) Woomer. David graduated from Bloomfield High School Class of 1950. He lived in Bloomfield before moving to Rockaway Township in 1968. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War aboard the USS Badoeng Strait and the USS Antietam. The USS Antietam was the first ever aircraft carrier with a canted deck, which allowed the planes to take off and land simultaneously. David retired from PSE&G after 38 years as a senior marketing representative. He was also part owner of Dutch Girl Cleaners, Rockaway Twp. Mr. Woomer was the Scoutmaster of Troop #28, Our Lady of All Souls, East Orange. Cubmaster of Pack #158 St. Clement Pope and Martyr Church, Rockaway Twp. Rockaway Twp. coach of Birchwood Bombers, Babe Ruth Baseball. Chairman of the Rockaway Twp. Shade Tree Commission. He was also past president of the West Essex Chamber of Commerce. A fourth degree Knight of Knights of Columbus #514, Dover. Member Sons of the American Revolution Jockey Hollow Chapter. Charter member Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Phillip Kearny Camp #20. Life member of American Legion Post #344, Rockaway Twp. Predeceased by his daughter Susan. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years Florence (Ricciardi), a son Michael and Fay of Oak Ridge, and a son Stephen and Tally of Boca Raton, Fl. Also survived by six grandchildren: Susan, Alexa, Lisa, Jonathan, Andrew, Abigail and his dog Maggie. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Clement Pope and Martyr Church, Rockaway Twp. (973-366-7095) on Wednesday May 16, 2012 at 9:30AM. Visitation at Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph (Tuttlefh.com) on Tuesday May 15, 2012 from 3-5PM & 6-9PM. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to Lupus Foundation of America, NJ Chapter, 150 Morris Ave., Suite 102, P.O. Box 1184, Springfield NJ 07081.
