Obituary of John W. Cocking

Beloved Husband, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend. John W. Cocking, 74, of Succasunna, passed away at home on Sunday April 29, after a long illness. John was born in Dover and lived in Succasunna for 45 years. He was one of seven brothers and sisters. He served in the US Army as an M48 tank mechanic from 1957-1959 and was stationed in Mannheim Germany where he met and fell in love with his wife. He was a self-employed Painter-Paper Hanger for many years, until 1993 when he started with R.F. Enderley of Morristown and retired in 2009. Mr. Cocking was a member of the Lake Hopatcong Elks #782 (formerly Dover -Rockaway) for 43 years. He loved deep-sea fishing, baseball and football. He will always be remembered for his warm hearted and gentle spirit. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Christa; two daughters Susan Michaels of Succasunna and Linda Oeftering and her husband Walter of Stanhope. Also survived by four sisters; Gladys Mae Singewald of Verona, Elizabeth Lange of PA, Ruth Patamia of Dover and Shirley Law of PA; two brothers Alfred of PA and Henry of ME, and his cherished granddaughter Alyssa, who was the apple of his eye. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in his memory to NJSEA State Elks Association SCC, P.O. Box 1596, Woodbridge, NJ 07095. A memorial service in his honor at Lake Hopatcong Elks to be determined. Arrangements private by Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph.
