Obituary of Eugene Joseph Broda

Eugene “Gene” Joseph Broda (Boonton, NJ and McMinnville, TN) Gene passed away on October 13th, 2011 at Kindred Hospital, Dover, NJ after a courageous battle over the past forty years with chronic illness. He was a gentleman to the end never losing his independence, warm smile, and sense of humor. Born July 18th, 1932, Sugar Notch, PA to the late Andrew and Teresa (Grabowski) Broda. He graduated from Holy Family Catholic Church School, Sugar Notch, PA. With the onset of his Dad’s illness, Gene went directly to work as a coal miner at the Huber Colliery, Ashley PA (the Huber Breaker) in support of his Mother and family, instead of attending high school. His strong work ethic in support of his family continued after leaving Huber, and over the course of his lifetime included a 25 year career with the Whippany Paper Board Company, followed by another 10 years at Warner-Lambert (Morris Plains), prior to his retirement in 1989. Gene was a loving, generous, and devoted family man and is preceded to death by his parents (Andrew 1953, Teresa 1970), his beloved wife, Patricia (2009), his cherished pets -Princess and Duke, his in-laws Alma and Edgar Willis (1996,1999), his youngest daughter Cheryl Ann (1996), as well as, his sister Josephine and her husband Joseph Grucella, and his brother Andrew and his wife Mary Broda. He is survived by his sister Irene and her husband Stanley Dudeck , and his brother Henry and his wife Patricia Broda. Gene is also survived by his eldest daughter Donna and his only son and caregiver, John, and his partner, Bernard Knudsen. He is also survived by Patricia’s brothers and sister and their spouses and families, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be sent to the Church of the Redeemer -Memorial Fund (36 South St, Morristown, NJ 07960), in Gene’s memory and because of his love of animals, a memorial arch will be erected at the entrance to the Animal Memorial Garden. Visitation, Saturday, October 22nd, 2011, 9:00 – 10:30 AM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph, NJ (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Service will follow at 10:30 AM also at the funeral home. Interment Succasunna Presbyterian Cemetery, Succasunna, NJ.
