Obituary of Andreas A. Boyadjis

Andreas Anthony Boyadjis passed from this life at age 89, peacefully and at his home in Bedminster on August 12, 2011 surrounded by his loving wife of 60 years, Lillian (Kyprios) Boyadjis, his four children and their spouses, Chrystalla Daly, D.O. (Michael), Terrence A. Boyadjis, M.D. (Lorraine), Anthony A. Boyadjis, Esq. (Lauren) and Eleni Boyadjis, Esq., his ten grandchildren, Ryan Daly, Elisabeth Boyadjis, Tia Boyadjis, Jennifer Mantzas, Andrew Mantzas, Stephanie Daly, Hannah Boyadjis, Rachel Boyadjis, Zachary Daly and Spyro Mantzas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A man coming from humble origins, he was born on the island of Cyprus in 1922. He was predeceased by all eight of his brothers and sisters. Blessed with tremendous intellectual curiosity, an unparalleled work ethic and a driving ambition, he came to America in 1947 after serving in World War II with the Cyprus Regiment of the British Army with six dollars in his pocket and a dream for a better life. He learned the diner trade from his late brother Nicos Boyiatgis in Bayonne, NJ and found the love of his life literally across the street from their luncheonette. He and Lillian married in 1951 and moved to Morristown after purchasing the ANA Diner at the corner of Speedwell Avenue and Water Street. He loved his adopted country and proudly became a citizen in 1952. A scholar by nature, Andreas’s burning desire for knowledge compelled him to begin taking classes at Drew University despite having four children and a business to run. Still not satisfied, he enrolled at Rutgers Law School, taking classes by day and working at the diner by night, receiving his degree at age 42. He established a law practice in Morristown and did tremendous good for all who came to him for over two decades, retiring in 1988 when he passed the office on to his son Anthony. He was immensely proud of his Greek Cypriot heritage and instilled in his children a deep appreciation of its history and culture. He was a founding member of St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church in 1962 and served in various offices on the Parish Council. He was a multiple past President of AHEPA, an educational and cultural organization founded to smooth the way of Greek immigrants. He had an abiding love of music and letters which was evidenced by the perpetual presence of either a violin, the New York Times, or some obscure treatise on philosophy, cosmology or virtually anything tucked under his arm. He will be sorely missed, but the impact he made on his family, friends and colleagues will endure. Visitation is Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10 West, Randolph(Tuttlefh.com) from 2:00PM - 4:00PM and from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service is Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 1447 Sussex Turnpike, Randolph at 10:00AM. Interment at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
