Obituary of Ellen Appio

Ellen Appio, 103, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Merry Heart Care Center in Succasunna. Ellen lived all her life in Dover/Randolph. Her first job was in the bakery at Lehman’s Department Store in Dover. At the age of 19 she accepted an office position at Picatinny Arsenal where she worked for 36 ½ years until her retirement in1963.
In 1932 Ellen married Joseph Appio. Both Ellen and Joe enjoyed spending their retirement taking many trips across our country visiting friends and family. Ellen also took great pleasure in hosting dinner parties at her home. They were always very special.
She attended Bethlehem Church from its early days on Union Street in Dover and was active in the Women’s Missionary Society.
Ellen is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Appio; her parents, August and Anna Nester; and her brother, Eric Nester, and his wife, Mildred Nester, all of Randolph.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Monahan of Randolph;
A niece, Jan Kapash; and her great nephews, Michael Kapash, Keith Kapash and his wife Aparna, all of California;
A nephew, Carl Nester and his wife, Nancy, of Andover; and her great nephews, Eric Nester of Mahwah and David Nester of Andover and a great niece, Stacey (Nester) Jameson and her husband, Chris of Fredon.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, from 9:30AM to 11:30AM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10 West, Randolph, www.Tuttlefh.com, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:30AM at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Millbrook Cemetery in Randolph. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Bethlehem Church, 780 Rt. 10, Randolph, NJ 07869, for missionary work or to the Friends of Randolph Animal Pound, c/o Town Hall, Health Dept., 502 Millbrook Ave., Randolph, NJ 07869.
The family would like to express special appreciation to her devoted friends, Joan Stephans and Anna Johnson, for their many years of compassionate support. She will be dearly missed.
