Obituary of William J. Farrelly

William J. Farrelly, 84, former long-time resident of Dover, NJ, died at his current residence in Sparta, NJ, on February 19, 2011. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Connelly Farrelly; his father, James Francis Farrelly; his mother, Anna Sophia Farrelly; and his sister, Barbara Farrelly Pomerantz. He was survived by his second wife, Janet Rages (Milton) Farrelly, and his six children, Ruth Anne Erb, James Farrelly, Raymond Farrelly, Linda Gabbard, Susan McGinnis, and Patricia Coombs. He was also survived by his thirteen grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter. In addition, Mr. Farrelly was survived by many members of an extended family, including a cousin, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces. Mr. Farrelly left school to join the Navy during World War II, but returned to, and graduated from, Dover High School upon completion of service to his country as an Aviation Ordnanceman. He later attained an Associates Degree at Newark College of Engineering, which he attended nights, while working days at McKiernan-Terry Company, MKT Corporation and Hewlett-Packard Corporation. Bill also helped form and run BCD Company with two other partners. Always having had an affinity with sports, Bill participated in football, baseball, basketball, and bowling over the years, both locally and while serving in the Navy. He was a long-standing member of Council No. 514 of the Knights of Columbus in Dover, NJ. Always a kind, gentle, and loving man, Bill will be genuinely missed by his family and friends.
Visitation Wednesday, February 23, 2011, 3–5 & 7–9 P.M. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 8 Richards Avenue, Dover (973-366-0770), Thursday, February 24, 2011, 10:00 A.M.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Whippany, NJ.
