John Joseph St. John, Jr. 77, of Landing, passed away peacefully onThursday, December 5th, 2013. John was born in Avoca, PA, and has been a resident of Landing for 30 years. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a Captain of the East Orange Fire Department for 28 years, and retired in 1991. He enjoyed boating on Lake Hopatcong and he enjoyed traveling during his retirement. John was an avid reader and would sing “Danny Boy” at the drop of a hat. He loved his family and cherished his grandchildren and he will be missed dearly. John was a member of the FMBA. He is survived by his wife Ilene (nee Stank) of 27 years; two daughters Jill Morris and her husband Donald, and Susan Barboe and her husband Noel; one stepdaughter Debra Altman and her husband Louis Sloane; four grandchildren Nora Barboe, Donald J. and Jordan Morris, and Melissa Sloane. Also survived by his sister Jule Nielsen and her husband Doug, brother Frank and his wife Sally, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be on Monday, December 9, 2013, 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 10th, 2013, 9:30 a.m. at St. Therese R.C. Church, 151 Main Street, Succasunna (973-584-8271). In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to St. Jude Children's Cancer Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
