Obituary of Richard F. "Dick" Riedel

Richard F. "Dick" Riedel, 85, of Mine Hill, passed away on June 30, 2010 at his daughter's home in Orwell,VT after a long illness.Born and raised in Reading,PA, he lived in Mine Hill since 1953, prior to that he lived in Dover.He graduated from Dover High School in 1943. He was an engineering technician at Picatinny Arsenal for 31 years, retiring in 1982.He served in the U.S. Army's 79th Infantry during World War II, and took part in the D-Day Invasion, The Battle of the Bulge and the Liberation of Paris.He is the recipient of two Purple Hearts and the Liberation of France Medal.He also served in the Army National Guard's 50th Armored Division from 1948-1966. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 391 of Mine Hill, the V.F.W. Post # 2833 of Kenvil ,the Military Order of the Purple Heart and was a founding member of the Mine Hill First Aid Squad. He is survived by three daughters, Susan Weakland of Mine Hill, Jane Weyer of Orwell,VT and Ann Riedel also of Orwell,VT. Two sons, Richard C. of Hackettstown and William of Mine Hill. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Sarah in 1955 and his wife Cornelia "Skee" in 2005. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 3-5 & 7-9PM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10 west, Randolph,NJ www.Tuttlefh.com The interment will be at a later date at The Arlington National Cemetery,Arlington,VA. In lieu of Flowers donations may be made in his memory to either The Mine Hill First Aid Squad, 10 Baker St., Mine Hill,NJ 07803 or The American Legion Post # 391, 1 Legion Place, Mine Hill,NJ 07803
