Obituary of Richard P. "Dick" Kalata

Richard P. "Dick" Kalata passed away peacefully on April 15, 2016 at Saint Clare's Hospital, Denville. Dick was 77 years old. Dick a resident of Brightview Retirement Complex in Randolph, NJ formerly of Somerset, NJ, Randolph and Flanders, NJ. He was born in New Castle, PA on July 8, 1938 to his parents George and Mary. Richard graduated from Youngstown State University with a B.A. in business. Dick retired in 2003 from Tappan Appliances as a District Regional Manager. He was in the U.S. Army Reserve for two years during his time in college. He worked in Ohio, Illinois and Connecticut and finally moved to New Jersey 43 years ago for his work. Dick loved the movies especially musicals and worked as a motion picture projectionist in the theaters in Morris and Bergen counties and other parts of the country. He held the Union office of treasurer for the IATSE Local 632 for many years. He learned his craft from his father who was a projectionist in his home town in Pennsylvania. Most recently Dick served as Resident Ambassador and President of the Resident's Association at Brightview where he also managed the movie theater. Richard was married to Ruth (Schell) his wife of 49 years who preceded him in death four years ago. He leaves a son Scott and his wife Linda Rosa Kalata of Denville, a sister Kathy and her husband Rob Crisci from Naples, Florida, a brother Donald (deceased) and his widow Sarah in New Castle, PA and his beloved Cocker Spaniel Jacques. Other family members a cousin David Kalata and his wife Linda and their two sons of Hopatcong. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. He will be missed.
