Ivan Basch formerly of Dover, passed away on Friday evening, January 23, 2015. He was born in Elizabeth, on September 5, 1918. Ivan was married to Natalie (Furstman) for 69 years, prior to her death in 2012. They were married on March 15, 1943, at Fort Breckinridge, Kentucky, just before Ivan left for overseas duty in WWII. During the war he was stationed in India, where he was a captain in the US Army Ordnance Corps, supplying army combat units with weapons and ammunition, and overseeing their testing and distributing for China-Burma-India. After returning from the war, they settled in Dover, where he co-owned the United Cigar Store on Blackwell Street. He spent the remainder of his career, working for Dean Witter, from which he retired in 1991. He served on the Dover Board of Education for almost 30 years, presenting diplomas to each of his four daughters. He and Natalie lived in Dover for 61 years before moving to Franciscan Oaks, in Denville. After retiring, he and Natalie enjoyed traveling worldwide. He was an avid reader of the newspaper, religiously following the stock market, world events, and current politics until the time of his death. His family was paramount in his life. Ivan is survived by Karen Lobron and husband, David, of Long Valley, Barbara Bergman and husband, Eric, of Washington, DC, and Susan Marr and husband Stephen, of Basking Ridge. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Matthew Lobron and wife, Stephanie, Ben Paletsky and wife, Stephanie, Rachel Paletsky Ash and husband, Richard, Daniel Bergman and wife, Melissa, Sarah Marr, Jed Bergman, Samantha Marr, and Seth Marr, as well as six great grandchildren, and many devoted nieces and nephews. His wife, Natalie; daughter, Janis Paletsky; grandson, Alex Lobron; and his siblings, Beatrice Schrank, Harriet Alpert, and Jacob “Bunny” Basch predeceased Ivan. Ivan was selfless in his love of family and will be greatly missed. A Funeral Service will be held at Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph (Tuttlefh.com) on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 11:30AM.
