Obituary of Rosalind Friedlander

Please share a memory of Rosalind to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rosalind Friedlander 97, was born on April 30, 1917, in the Bronx, NY. The family moved to Glen Ridge where Roz Peller grew up and graduated high school. On September 18, 1940, she married Lew Friedlander, and they had two children, Roger and Jill. Rosalind, known to most of her friends as Rye was a homemaker, a boy scout den mother, an avid bowler, a bridge player, and a gardener. She was the original ”Soccer Mom” before that was the complimentary label it is today. She participated 100% in both children’s activities. She found time to work as a bookkeeper in Grubers in W. Orange after Roger and Jill were in school. As she and Lew began enjoying their retirement, square dancing became their passion. They traveled three times a week to participate with a variety of square dance groups. Rye also became active in the W. Orange Seniors group, holding several board positions. After her beloved Lew’s passing in 1996, she sold the house they lived in for 46 years and moved to Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains. She enjoyed 5 years in Independent living and then spent another 8 in assisted living and then Reneissance Gardens. In addition to Roger and Jill, Rye leaves behind 5 wonderful grandchildren and 7 fabulous great grandchildren. She will be missed. Contributions can be made to alz.org. Services were held on Sunday, October 5th, 2014, at Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph.
