Obituary of Bilis Catacalos

Bilis Catacalos, 90, of Maplewood, passed away, suddenly at his home. on Wednesday, March 26th, 2014. Bilis has been a resident of Maplewood for over 50 years. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corps., after serving during WWII. He was a self employed carpenter, and retired over 30 years ago. He loved gardening, especially tomatoes, which he would give to all of his neighbors. He was the first patient to recieve heart bypass surgery at St. Barnabas, Livingston. Survived by his wife Rita of 66 years; four children Charlie and wife Patti, Ernie and wife Maria Angela, Cathy Barrett and husband Michael and John and wife Linda; seven grandchildren Sophia and husband Ian, Nikki, James, William, Thomas, Cassie and Athena; three great-grandchildren Alexander, Isabella and Isaac. Also survived by his sister Irene and brother Gregory and many other loving family members. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 30th, 2014, 4:00-8:00PM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com ). Funeral Services will be held at at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, Randolph, on Monday, March 31st, 2014, at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Montclair. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, "restricted to research in memory of Bilis Catacalos," 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.
