Obituary of William H. Carthage

William Henry (Bill) Carthage, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 21st, 2018.  Bill was born on August 16th, 1927 in Dover, to George M. and Florence H. Carthage.  Bill grew up in Dover, and graduated from Dover High School.  After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WW2 and served on the USS Yorktown.  Bill attended Lehigh University where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He then began work for the U.S. government at Picatinny Arsenal for 40 years.  Bill married Gale in 1957, they were happily married for 60 years.

Bill was an avid golfer, pilot and flight instructor.  He enjoyed being involved with his children and their numerous sports activities as well as coaching Little League for over 20 years.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents George M. and Florence H. Carthage, his brother George M., his sister Jeanne Crofton, and his son William H. Carthage Jr.  Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years Gale Beels Carthage, his son Michael Carthage of Walnut Creek, CA, his son Bob Carthage and spouse Lee and his grandchildren Brent and Ava of Marvin, NC.  Also, his brother Philip G. Carthage and spouse Mary of Belfast, Maine, and his sister Patricia L. Carthage of Lake Hopatcong and also his loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass Tuesday, February 27, 2018, 10:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 204 Espanong Rd, Lake Hopatcong, interment to follow at Northern NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sparta.
