William Gardner Sr., 84, of Dover, passed away Monday, April 11th, 2011, at Regency Grande Nursing & Rehab. Center , Dover following a long illness. William was born in Dover and has been a lifelong resident of Dover. He attended the First Memorial Presbyterian Church, Dover. He served in the U.S. Navy, Pacific Theatre, during WWII. He worked as an Equipment Operator for the Dover Road Department, Dover and retired in 1987 after 25 years. William was a member and Past Chief Dover Fire Department for 63 years. Member of the American Legion Post #27 of Dover and V.F.W. Post #7333 of Randolph. He also belonged to the East Dover Social Club. Survived by his son William Jr. and wife Irene of PA; daughter Debra McCarty of Newton; sister Jean Weimar of Maplewood; 2 nephews Robert and Skip Weimar, and his dear friend Joan McCafferty of Rockaway Township. Predeceased by his wife Edna Mae in 2003. Visitation Wednesday, April 13th, 2011, 3-5 & 7-9 P.M. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 14th, 2011, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in his memory to the Dover Volunteer Fire Department/Dover Emergency Squad, PO Box 798, Dover, NJ 07801.
