Anthony “Tony” Whalen left us for “Blue Skies”on Thursday, April 8, 2021, after a years-long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. His older sister Mary Ivanoski will attest to the fact that he was born in his Mother’s bedroom in Shenandoah, PA on June 21, 1935 while she and her mother were awaiting the late arrival of the midwife. Fortunately, he survived and went on to live a full and fun life. Tony never did anything half way. He left the “Patch” where he was born to go on to graduate from Penn State University as an engineer, serve as a Communications Officer in the Air Force, accept a position with Bell Labs where he worked for 39 years. While there, he worked on the original Telstar program, attended NYU to obtain his MSEE degree, worked on submarine detection for US Navy contracts, and wrote a textbook titled “Detection of Signals in Noise” , which is still used in colleges to this day. He was a technical supervisor and an inspiration to many young engineers. Prior to his retirement he was awarded the prestigious Bell Labs Fellow Award. Outside of work, he took up skydiving which became the real “love of his life”. By the time he stopped jumping, he had accrued 1667 jumps – a number that he would proudly reveal to anyone he met! After retirement, he took up woodworking and woodturning with a passion. He produced an extensive gallery of furniture, wooden boxes, and turned bowls. He was a member of the NJ Woodturners Club, and spent 8 years serving as their secretary. Whether they called him Tony, Dad, Uncle T, or Papa T, his sense of adventure, his love of a good Polka, his “Coal Cracker” approach, and his willingness to go where it says “No Trespassing” were enjoyed and loved by all who surrounded him. He is survived by his loving mate Mary Ann (Kee) Kokai, his sister Mary (Whalen) Ivanoski, his son Anthony (Cynthiann) Whalen III, his daughter Stephanie Whalen and mate Brian O’Keefe, his granddaughter Dr. Christina (Ricky) Cuellar, his grandsons Anthony (Mary) Whalen and Kurtis Filer-Bichard and his great-grandchildren Oliver and Emilia Cuellar. He is also survived by his former wife Macky (Verdi) Whalen, and his Sister-in-Law Michele (Dave) Moss. He also leaves his two partner-in-crime nephews Anthony (Jane) Ivanoski, and Chris (Mary) Ivanoski. His extended family also includes Mary Ann’s daughter Sherri Kokai and mate Ryan Folks, her daughter Kim Kokai-Mason and her husband Pat, and all of her grandchildren Aiden, Madison, Alexa, Hannah, Julie, Lucas, and Paul. Celebration of Life will be at Hedden Park in Randolph, Sunday, May 2, 12:00-2:00PM, with a service at 2:00PM. Arrangements by Tuttle Funeral Home (www.tuttlefh.com). My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
