Joseph Oswald Berry Jr.

Joseph O. Berry Jr., 103, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 28, 2021, at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown.   Mr. Berry was born in Walterboro, S.C. and graduated from the University of South Carolina, class of 1940.  He came to New Jersey at the start of World War II to work at Hercules Powder Co. Roxbury facility, where he met and married Eileen Calvey.  In 1954 they became permanent residents in the Ironia section of Randolph Twp.
 
He was a past member of Randolph Vol. fire co. #4 and as a young man belonged to the Dover Little Theater, appearing in several play productions.  In the early 60’s he served as a Randolph’s Parks Commissioner and was instrumental in the establishment of the Brundage Park Preserve.  Joseph was an avid writer; he had published several volumes of his lifetime memories and poems.  His many pursuits included a love of Jazz and classical music, gardening, reading novels, baseball and photography.  Joe’s kindness, generosity and witty sense of humor will be missed but never forgotten.
He was predeceased by his wife Eileen C. Berry, daughter Sheila B. Donovan and grandsons Liam Donovan and Daniel Berry.
He is survived by his son Joseph D. Berry and his wife Mary, Randolph; granddaughters Nina B. Clemens and her husband John, Rockaway, and Suzanne D. McCollum and her husband Douglass, Fairfax, VA; grandsons Matthew A. Berry, Randolph, Michael D. Donovan, Springfield, VA and Timothy Donovan, Long Beach, CA; Great granddaughters Brennan Rozmeski, Marissa and Lea Clemens.
 
Visitation 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com).
 
Funeral Service 10:00 AM on Monday, June 7, 2021, also at Tuttle Funeral Home.
 
Interment Our Lady of The Mountain Cemetery, Long Valley.
