Obituary of Lynne M. Olver

Lynne Martin Olver passed away on April 14, 2015 at the age of 57 following a courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. Lynne was born on March 10, 1958 in Mineola, New York. She graduated from the University at Albany with a master’s degree in Library Science in 1980. She married her best friend, Gordon Olver, in 1981. Together, they raised two children, Jason and Sarah, in Randolph, New Jersey where they have lived for 24 years. Lynne is survived by her husband, son, daughter and son-in-law, Mark Franklin, as well as her sister and sister-in-law, Janice Martin and Sandra Auestad. Lynne has worked at Morris County Library since 1991 as a reference librarian and ultimately became the director of the library in 2009. During her tenure at Morris County Library, she developed a passion for food history. In addition to her career, she became one of the preeminent food historians in the nation and built a renowned online research database entitled Food Timeline (foodtimeline.org). She has been published in several periodicals for her expertise in food history and has done numerous newspaper and radio interviews. Other honors and awards she has received include Saveur 100 and NY Times Librarian of the Year (2002). She was a contributor to Oxford University Press, Oxford Encyclopedia of Food and Drink in America and a consultant to America's Test Kitchen / Harvard Common Press. She was also a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals and Culinary Historians of New York. Lynne was a devoted, selfless, and loving wife and mother who put her family above all else. She loved to travel, explore, and learn. Some of her favorite destinations included: Lake Tahoe, Highline in NYC, Zion and Yellowstone National Parks, and Muir Woods. Among her other passions were rare cookbooks, historical museums and landmarks, hiking, wine tastings, cooking, and her beloved cats. Memorial Visitation at Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph (Tuttlefh.com) on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 5:00PM-8:00PM and Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 9:00AM - 10:00AM. Memorial Service at the funeral home on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Worldwide Bone Marrow Registry at www.Bethematch.org
