Obituary of Harry W. Carlson

Mr. Harry W. Carlson, 97, formerly of Dover, died peacefully on March 22, 2010 at CareOne at Ewing Nursing Home in Ewing. He was born on September 21, 1912 in Dover. He retired in 1970 after 40 years of service as an Inspector for Picatinney Arsenal in Rockaway Township. Harry was a military veteran of WWII, serving as an Army Air Corp. Technical Sergeant, 15th Air Force. He was also Past Exalted Ruler at Dover BPOE Elks #782 and member for over 68 years. He was a resident of Dover until 2004, at which time he became a resident in Pennington and shortly thereafter, CareOne, Ewing. Survivors include his niece, Janet Porter of Pennington, grandnieces Jill Jones and Janiene Baxter of Titusville, and grandnephew James Porter of Port St Lucie, FL. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Margaret Pittenger and her husband Lawrence of Blairstown and step-granddaughter, Patricia Hostetter of Apopka, FL. Predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, in 2001. Harry spent the last five years of his life at CareOne at Ewing. He was one of the original residents and served as President of the Resident Council for his stay at the home. His kindness, generosity, and integrity were ever present in his life and years at CareOne. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com), followed by the funeral service.
